The Whispering Winds

Somewhere on a quiet northern lake
A cedar strip canoe glides through the rippling water
As the winds whisper to the paddlers
Tales from a time long ago

Although many years have passed
The paddles slice through the water
Separating now and then
As they glide with ease

The winds whisper calm through the trees
The silence ravishes the soul
The beautiful sound calms the heart
And waving branches dance in the sun

The natural beauty is all around
As far as they can see, trees stand tall
The sun is beaming with a sky so blue
And a gentle breeze keeps them cool

A pair of loons frolic and call
The distinct shrill echoes over the lake
Towering shadows run through the woods
A legend disguised as merely a myth

The wind blows them down the way
In a quite place an honoured captain rests
Surrounded by the natural beauty
His hunting days are no more

A waterfall emerges through the trees
Screaming at the whispering winds
It breaks the calmness of the day
And the paddlers proceed with caution

The trip ends where it began
A day they will speak of for years to come
The sun begins to set on the horizon
As the gentle whispers blow in the winds
